Sharing form the heart

What I live for...

September 2, 2007

This true story touched me so deeply that I cannot but to share it.

Couple years ago one of kessei students at Dai Bosatsu Zendo was assigned to run sewing room. We cooperated doing some projects together. Certainly, sewing was not his talent and I remember getting totally frustrated discovering before one of the sesshins that he messed up very important tanbuton. This had to be ready on time, and suddenly we had to start making it again from the beginning.

Some time later I was told the he left Dai Bosatsu suddenly, due to the death of his mother. He did not come back for a while and some gave up on him, saying that he will not be back again…
I could not agree with this assumption…

One day I did receive an e-mail from him. Since he wanted to order a robe we exchanged some info about measurements etc.
I did mention that I was very happy that he is planning to come back to continue kessei. At that time there were very few people in Dai Bosatsu and some of us were concern. I wrote to him that among others I also do worry if the place will survive. The answer from him brought me to tears…
“Ekyo, do not worry. DBZ will survive. This is what I live for.”

WOW! I thought, unexpected words from unexpected person and how true! If Dai Bosatsu does have residents with such spirit, of cause it will survive…

Months later Tenrai is back, and quietly working, doing what needs to be done, and more. Being constantly scolded because of this and that, nothing matters…
because THIS is what he lives for…

Thank you, Tenrai.
