Special corner

February 11.2008

Couple nights ago as I was doing zazen in the corner of my bedroom after a very busy day I felt as sitting on the top of solitary peak…

Sitting on the top of Mount Fuji…

THIS is the most powerful spot to do zazen! The corner of my bedroom where I have a mat on single tatami tan, given to me by a friend Seth is a very special spot.

A few years ago when flying to Japan and approaching landing in Tokyo we were ask to look at Mount Fuji. It is standing alone and the peak is above clouds, most of the time covered with snow. Very majestic and powerful image…

There is a koan when monk asks master: “What is the most important thing?”

“Sitting alone on the top of solitary peak”, was a reply…

Though the meaning here is not sitting in zazen in remote quiet place, the image of powerful top of mountain very much describes the power of my zazen corner.

After practicing in many places here in this country and in Japan, there is nothing as joyful as late night sitting in this corner. Often I am very tired and think - well today just a short zazen before I collapse. But in a blink of eye, more than one hour passes… and after I am so awake, that sleep is impossible, so more zazen…

I hope that everyone has a very special spot to do ZAZEN!

Where is it?
